The Kiss by Constantin Brancusi (1876-1957)

In an older post, I talked about “The Endless Column“, one of Brâncuși’s artworks. Today, I have decided to bring another masterpiece to your attention, after seeing it on https://paintinginvalencia.com/. (Visiting the site you may enjoy the beauty in varied forms).

The first version of the Kiss was created in 1907 and unveiled in 1912. The theme was repeated in different forms. Therefore, Brâncuși created six versions of The Kiss between 1907 and 1908, culminating with the Gate of the Kiss, part of the Monumental ensemble from Târgu Jiu.

The Kiss is “something primitive, something truthful, something about the human condition.”

Versions of “The Kiss” can be seen at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and as a tombstone in Montparnasse Cemetery, Paris, France.

One of the world’s first museums with a collection of Brâncuși’ sculptures is the Art Museum of Craiova.

The largest Brancusi exhibition, organized in Romania in the last 50 years, is hosted at the National Art Museum in Timișoara, from September 30, 2023, to January 28, 2024.

The world can be saved through art. The artist basically makes toys for big people.
