Here, ARS is neither about the Agriculture Research Services nor the Advanced Record System. It is the abbreviation I have chosen for Attachments, Regrets, and Suffering and the word «ars» means «burnt» in Romanian.
Those feelings, Attachments, Regrets, and Suffering, can lead us to «burn» emotionally, similar to how we can burn physically because of fire or as we are told that we will burn after death. However, throughout life, we may experience things that make us feel like we are burning (emotionally).
Attachments
As I have said before, we don’t really own anything in this world, but our education and experiences have made us believe that we are «owners»—owners of houses, land and fortunes, owners over the lives of other fellows. A fake dominion and power that exist because of selfishness.
Learned to attach ourselves to things in search of illusory happiness, we suffer and become desperate when we do not come into possession of that «something», on which we think our happiness depends.
Regrets
We tend to focus on what we lack and want and seek ways to fulfil our desires, while also trying to rationalize and justify our experiences as good or bad. However, our regrets also come from our past actions or experiences, especially from missed opportunities, unspoken words, or moments when we chose selfishness over kindness, as Steven Greer suggests.
When we prioritize our own selfish desires over what is truly good for us and others, we disregard our intuition. Therefore, as I pointed out in «The Garden of Love,» we often end up with regrets by ignoring our hearts’ voices.
Suffering
When considering who is to blame for how you live or have lived, we may find numerous causes and culprits. However, you are the only one responsible for being unhappy due to unfulfilled desires and dying with regrets for not following your heart’s promptings.
Kant teaches us to seek the world within ourselves, not outside. While our minds may encounter obstacles, our hearts, which know no obstacles, will not.
Holding onto unresolved negative emotions we often create our own hell of suffering. Attachments and regrets are both part of them making us live suffering, with a squeezed and drained soul, as C. S. Lewis says.
***
We can understand and accept the origin of both the attachments and regrets, of the suffering they bring us, or we accept… to burn/ (ARDem in Romanian) ourselves.
However, we need to burn ourselves emotionally. It is the way we learn love’s lessons in our lives. Steven Greer’s advice is to focus more on what we neglect to do, on what is positive and useful for humanity.
Don’t miss any opportunity to do good, to love, … and take advantage of the opportunity to create a better world, to express your love for people, or to respond with a kind gesture.
