Antarctica/Nankyoku Tairiku (2011)

Based on a true story, “Antarctica” also known as Antarctica – The Story of Dogs and Men Who Challenged the Field of God, is an adventure TV series and a deeply emotional drama.

Set in 1956, a group of Japanese explorers, accompanied by 19 Sakhalin huskies, embarks on a mission to explore Antarctica.

Once arrived, the team works diligently to establish the Showa Base, a research outpost amidst the icy expanse. They endure a year of challenges, forging bonds and adapting to the extreme conditions inherent in this remote environment. At the end of the year, the team is rescued, and the second group cannot be transferred, receiving orders to withdraw from the Antarctic station due to severe weather conditions. Regrettably, the explorers are unable to bring their beloved dogs back home, leaving the loyal huskies behind in the unforgiving wilderness.

The following year, a new team arrives at the Showa Base station. One member of the original team is determined to honour the bond he shared with the dogs. He joins the new group, motivated to locate and hopefully rescue some of the abandoned huskies. A miraculous reunion occurs between him and two of the dogs.

This is a touching story of love and life, and teamwork, highlighting the courage of pursuing dreams, and trust between people. A story of survival against all odds, and of the bond between people and dogs.

A great movie about motivation and inspiration for not giving up!
