Footsteps in the night

by Marcello Comitini

Nor the faithful memories of our life
nor the springs, which return to set fire to the days
among the green leaves of the bougainvillea
they shelter us from sleepless anguish
waiting for them to ring out on the sidewalk
the footsteps of the unknown
who carries the night within him..
