The Equestrian Statue of Stephen the Great
I posted an article a few months ago about the Suceava Fortress. In its close proximity, about 500 meters from the fortress, in the Șipote-Cetate park, is the statue of Romanian ruler Ștefan cel Mare (Stephen the Great).
With the help of the Walachian prince Vlad III the Impaler, Stephen secured the throne of Moldavia in 1457. He was voivod (Prince) of Moldavia (1457–1504).
During his reign, he strengthened Moldavia and maintained its independence against Hungary, Poland, and the Ottoman Empire, which all sought to subdue the land. He won fame in Europe for his long resistance to the Ottoman Turks.
The statue was made by the sculptor Iftimie Bârleanu and unveiled in 1977.
Made of cast bronze, the statue is the largest work of its kind in the country and can be seen from any central point of the city (Suceava).

It has a total height of 23 m. The statue’s plinth is made of travertine by the sculptor Vladimir Florea. The plinth is 15 meters high, 6 meters long and 2.10 meters wide. The statue depicts the ruler on horseback and is 8 meters high, 8 meters long and 2 meters wide.
On the side walls of the plinth, in the lower register, are two large bronze bas-reliefs. One bas-relief shows a battle sequence, and the other a scene from the Royal Court. On the front wall, in the upper half, the plinth is decorated with the coat of arms of Moldova, also made of bronze.

The monument of Stephen the Great in Suceava was included in the List of historical monuments in Suceava County in 2004.
