Colt Fortress
Called the Castle of the Carpathians, the Colţ Fortress from Suseni, Râu de Mori, Hunedoara county was built in the 14th century by the Cândea family, being documented in 1359.
The fortress was named after the “corner of the rock” on which it stands. Another theory suggests that it might be linked to the massive stone corner inside the keep. It is also known as the “Castle of the Carpathians,” and it is believed to have inspired Jules Verne’s novel of the same name.

The fortress was used as a defence and control point, and the four-level tower could act as a place of refuge in case of an enemy attack.
