This is an interesting historical movie, and is based on true and sad events reflecting the results of the empire’s greediness and wishes for power.

After 300 years of colonialism, Britain withdraws from India.

– We have to protect our interests here. … Look at the map. Look where the power will lie. The Golf, oil. We need to secure our access to these huge reserves and block access to others. We’ll have that security courtesy of Pakistan. 

– And divided India for oil?

– For security.”

Mihai Viteazul (Michael the Brave) (1971)

Michael the Brave was a Wallachian ruler Prince who lived and reigned at the end of the 16th century. He had succeeded to overcome the adversity of the Ottoman and Austrian Empires and unite Wallachia, Moldavia and Transylvania into one country. He is one of the greatest Romanians heroes, and “his reign marked the first time unification of all principalities inhabited by Romanians under the same ruler.”

Motivational and Inspirational Movies (35)

Lagaan: Once upon a time in India (2001)

Today, with the Lagaan movie I am back to sports movies. 🙂

The plot is set in rural India, in 1893 and follows the natives of a small village during the late Victorian period of India’s colonial British Raj. People feel suffocated by high taxes and years of drought. Their complaints about taxes will end by being challenged by an arrogant British officer in a game of cricket. The result of the game should support the increase of taxes or their avoidance.
