Listen to YOURSELF
We have been taught we should say YES to others for it is polite or right. What about telling yourself YES?
We are always told to consider things from others’ point of view for understanding them. I agree with. What about considering the things from your point of view? What about understanding yourself? How can you understand others as long as you do not understand yourself? You lie to yourself when agreeing with others just for pleasing them and deep in your heart you know it.
It is a kind of theatre play we have been taught to play on our life scene. The wrong part? We play instead to live the life we have it now and here. Considering yourself impolite or unlucky, you make compromises and they will be followed by frustration. You will become angry, feel anxiety, live in depression and develop diseases.
I have lived my entire life in a flat but always dreamed to have my cottage, to own a little garden and spend my time working in. I have been always discouraged by those around me with words as “you cannot change anything”, “ you cannot afford it”, “you come from a poor family”, “you are woman”. I also can say that my own property was a flat at the 4th level in a “ghetto” neighbourhood as my son used to call it. I have learned that
listening to myself means to be silent, for in silence only, you hear what “you” want.
“The word ‘listen’ contains the same letters as the word ‘silent’.” (Alfred Brendel)
More than a year ago I decided to make a try and sell my flat. I was only visualising the house and the garden. I was also thinking that I cannot loose anything but gaining to live my dream. Last year my dream became true. My flat was sold as I wished and I live now in a cottage and own a little garden. Maybe some of you will say that I am lucky. I say that I listened to myself not to others around me and my wish became true. So, I did not loose anything but I gained my dream.
Listening to others means you see your life through their eyes. Listening to yourself means you see your life through your own eyes.
You know to listen to others for it is what we are taught from early years: listen to your parents, your teacher, your boss. How many times have you heard “listen to yourself”? How can you say that you know yourself? How can you understand yourself as long as you do not listen to yourself? Listening to yourself means following your heart, your wishes and desires. It is not following others’ wishes. Also, listening to yourself does not mean you disrespect others. You can listen to them and listen to yourself, and decide what path to follow for your decision always belongs to you.
If snowdrop or crocus will listen to weather forecast, will never come out from snow. They always follows what they know – to follow their way.
Never be afraid to listen to yourself! Never lie to yourself, start respecting and accepting exactly as you are. Start listening to your own voice for it never lies to you. It is your inner voice and as Vernon Howard says,
“Inner guidance is heard like soft music in the night by those who have learned to listen.”
Listen to YOURSELF!
