Watching movies, probably you do not know they are shot in Romania. Actually, it seems that the picturesque landscapes of Romania make it more and more popular with movie producers. Here is a list of ten movies filmed in Transylvania:
1. Beowulf (1999)
It is an American fantasy-action movie based on the Old English poem Beowulf. It is filmed in Rupea Fortress, one of the oldest settlements and best-conserved medieval sites in Romania.
2. Cold Mountain (2003)
It is an epic war film. Cold Mountain is a real mountain located within Pisgah National Forest, Haywood County, North Carolina. However, the rural scenes were filmed almost entirely in Transylvania, in the village of Reci and in the Romanian capital, Bucharest.
3. Youth without Youth (2007)
It is a fantasy drama based on the book by Romanian Mircea Eliade. The film is exploring the experiences of a man who can continue his career without aging after a freak accident.
It is shot in various locations in Romania, including Sinaia, Brașov, Piatra Neamț, Constanța, Bucharest.
4. The Brothers Bloom (2008)
It is a comedy-drama film about the last great adventure of the world’s best con men. They are plotting one last shot and the victim is Penelope an eccentric millionaire. Her castle is Peleș Castle.
Among the locations of the movie, there is The Constanța Casino and the port of Constanța.
5. Ghost Rider – Spirit of Vengeance (2011)
It is an American superhero movie and features Nicolas Cage as Ghost Rider.
Some scenes were shot in Romania. Among the places, there are Corvin Castle, Bucharest, Targu-Jiu and Transfăgărășan.
The Corvin Castle, also known as Hunyadi Castle, is the largest and one of the most beautiful castles in Transylvania, and one of the largest castles in Europe.
6. A Princess for Christmas (2011)
The comedy-drama film captures the Peleș Castle, in Sinaia, for the Castlebury Castle. It is hailed as one of the most beautiful castles in Europe and a must-see attraction when visiting Romania.
The story is about a woman who is doing her best as new guardian to her niece and nephew. She loses her job and on the same day an unexpected invitation arrives. A travel to Europe to spend a royal Christmas with the children’s grandfather – the Duke of Castlebury Hall (Roger Moore).
Laughter begins to echo in the quiet halls filling everyone with hope and joy for the season.
7. Hatfield and McCoys (2012)
It is a three-part Western television miniseries and almost entirely shot in Transylvania, near Brașov. The Carpathians served as a stand-in for the Appalachian Mountains.
8. A Farewell to Fools (2013)
It is a movie based on a Romanian novel written by Titus Popovici, directed by Bogdan Dreyer and starring Gerard Depardieu and Harvey Keitel. The movie is filmed in The Medieval citadel of Sighișoara, in the village of Saschiz one of the villages with fortified churches in Transylvania, and in Bucharest.
The action happens during WWII when a boy and his fool friend discover a dead soldier in a field. Much of the film is about the town leaders spending the night trying to become “nobodies” when challenged with having to take the blame for the crime.
9. A Christmas Prince (2017)
It is an American Christmas romantic trilogy. It was filmed at Peleș Castle, Other filming locations in Romania included Bragadiru Palace, the Cotroceni National Museum, and the Carol Davila Medicine and Pharmacy University, all being located in the Romanian capital.
10. Dragonheart: Battle for the Heartfire (2017)
A dragon named Drago tries to end a rivalry between a brother and a sister. They both have dragon-like powers. Moreover, they are both after the throne of their grandfather, while a new threat steals Drago’s source of power.
It is an American-Romanian action, adventure, and fantasy film. It was filmed at Corvin Castle.

I didn’t even know so many films to be chosen as a filming medium, our country .. I only knew of two films and they were not put here. It was an interesting surprise for the film directors to choose Romania .. Very Beautiful! That makes me love my country even more and appreciate it! Thank you very much Manuela !!!

I see you are talking about Magyarization. Romanians as countless Croats, Serbs, Slovaks were subjected to Magyarization. Yet, Transylvania is a historical region of Romania.
