Living Fires
A great natural phenomenon taking place in Romania is known as “living fires”. The name “Living Fires” is given because the fire is always active.
One of the places where you can see it is Lopătari, in Buzău County.
The phenomenon is similar to that of muddy volcanoes. It is formed due to natural gas emanation. That comes to the surface through the cracks of the earth’s crust.
The fires ignite themselves or by the sun’s rays.
Depending on the inside gas pressure and weather, the flames may be higher or barely flickering.
