The Eagles’ Lake
The Eagle’s Lake is located at approximately 1.420 meters altitude, near Gura Siriului village, in Buzău County.
The name of the lake is derived from a legend mentioned by Alexandru Vlahuţă in his well-known work, “România pitorească“- a travelogue exploring Romania’s landscape.
According to the legend, eagles visit the lake each spring to teach their chicks how to fly.

The lake is also known as the “Bottomless Lake” name that comes from a local legend according to which a shepherd tired of his job abandoned his flock and threw his stuff into the lake. After a year, he found the discarded stuff floating on the waters of the Danube, which led him to go back to his previous job.

Near The Eagles’ Lake is the only area where the black goat, an endangered species, protected by law can be still found.
Although the lake is relatively small, its beauty lies in the purity of the water and the surrounding landscape.
