Jacquou le Croquant (2007)
Jacquou le Croquant is a French historical film based on the 1899 novel by Eugene Le Roy and the 1969 TV serial “Jacquou le Croquant”. The book is often translated as “Jacquou the Rebel” even if the word “Croquant” has a more pejorative meaning as a “yokel”.
However, the action is set in the Dordogne, just after the Napoleonic period and filmed in Romania, at the Corvin Castle.
Jacquou is a boy living happily with his parents. His father will be prisoned for crime and his mother dies shortly after. Orphan and poor, the boy will be helped by the priest Bonal and remains in his care.
As an adult, Jacquou will transform his vow of vengeance into a struggle against injustice and attempts to overturn it.
Jacquou le Croquant is a movie about unconditional love and respect beyond hatred and the division of society into rich and poor, where money makes the law the way it wants.
It is a movie that creates the image of our society on another scale. A lesson that you do not have to hate and kill for changing something around you.
Jacquou le Croquant is a movie you should not miss!
