Stephen the Great: Vaslui 1475 (1975)

In one article I posted in October, I told you about “The Equestrian Statue of Stephen the Great“. Today, I want to share with you the Romanian historical film about Stephen, “Stephen the Great: Vaslui 1475 (1975)“.

Stephen the Great is the most representative and beloved of all the rulers of the Romanian heroes. He was a Moldavian ruler who lived and reigned at the end of the 15th century.

With the help of the Walachian prince Vlad III the Impaler, Stephen secured the throne of Moldavia in 1457. He ruled Moldavia between 1457 and 1504.

During his reign, he strengthened Moldavia and maintained its independence against Hungary, Poland, and the Ottoman Empire, which all sought to subdue the land. He won fame in Europe for his long resistance to the Ottoman Empire.

As a great leader, Stephen promoted economic prosperity and reorganized the army. Moldavia was never so expanded and respected as it was during his reign. Thus, he created a powerful state to prevent the Ottoman advance. He repelled the Ottoman attacks and won at Vaslui in 1475.

The film Stephen the Great: Vaslui 1475 (1975) was shot during Ceaușescu’s time and has wonderful battle scenes and great music that makes your hair stand on end.

It is a movie about courage, power and betrayal, punishment, sacrifice and love for the motherland.

It is translated into English, and even if I do not know who did it, I want to say “thank you” for his work and respect for Romanian history.

In the comments I read about the movie, I found one that made me want to share it with you:

One must respect a country that fights so hard and so long just to exist, surrounded by opponents in a whirlpool of constantly side-switching frenemies.”

Love,

Manuela
